This alternate dimension Homer finds himself in has always reminded me of the template Maya grid and I have always remembered that episode as one of my favourites. It's twenty years old now yet I still find it technically mesmerising but the visual effects are only a small part of the episode to me as the story is also great.

Telling Tales: Taking Inspiration
Now I don't know if it crossed Matt's mind. But when we were developing our animation idea about having two characters living in the 'Maya World' I kept on thinking about a Simpsons Tree House of Horror episode called Homer3 where in an attempt to get out of a visit from Marge's sisters he accidentally stumbles into an alternate dimension behind a closet.
This alternate dimension Homer finds himself in has always reminded me of the template Maya grid and I have always remembered that episode as one of my favourites. It's twenty years old now yet I still find it technically mesmerising but the visual effects are only a small part of the episode to me as the story is also great.
