Telling Tales: Idea Generation

Mine and Matt's strengths of working collectively I feel stem from coming up with ideas so it was this part of the project we didn't really have any struggle with and were able to come up with what we thought was a pretty solid idea within thirty minutes.

We had the idea that because we are obviously beginners with Maya, the animation might not look as slick as we might envision it so we thought a way to get around this problem would be to reference the fact that we are inexperienced with Maya in our animation. That is when we came up with the following synopsis...

Our animation is set in the 'Maya World' which basically consists of a fairly basic 3D grid (The Maya grid template). On the grid there is basically just a bunch of random junk lying around such as fire exit signs, pens, odd bits of paper (basically stuff you'd find in a classroom). And the only two characters in this world are two 3D characters that have basically been modelled to be animated but then like the rest of the world has just been sort of abandoned halfway through by the animators who were supposed to be creating the animation about these characters in this world (Matt and I). Just like the world around them these two characters are underdeveloped and amateurishly designed. The Maya character's lives are simple and seemingly meaningless, all they do with their day is watch a giant screen that shows the two animators at work on the animation, (so basically their looking through the computer screen of the animators at work) but of course they don't know who these giant people on the screen are but they are nonetheless hopelessly intrigued by them and the world they live in an long to be where they are, 'on the outside'.

One character '54' is keen to get to this 'other world' and to get there he is convinced they just need to jump off the side of the grid into the darkness that lies below. Whereas, the other character '1' is anxious about this prospect and is more cynical that jumping off the edge of the grid would get them anywhere at all, instead he thinks they should just stay on the grid where its safe.

In the end they both end up jumping off the grid which fits the title 'Leap of Faith'.
