Sound Animation: Gnarls Barkley Crazy

A sound animation I looked at was the music video for the song Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. I really like how all the animation is in time to the music and at the start it’s like paint drops on the screen are music beats. The music video's visual style was inspired by the Rorschach test, a test in which a person's perceptions of ink blots are recorded and analysed.

(Above is an example of a Rorschach test)

Although the video gradually becomes more visually complicated as it goes on, the simple beat that runs throughout the song remains consistent and is continually represented as an ink blot enlarging and decreasing. This reminds me of when you press the peddle on a bass drum and the drum enlarges and decreases with every hit or like when an amplifier vibrates with the music.
