Storyboard Research: The Lion King

The Lion King I feel is an important storyboard to draw upon because it conveys excellent character emotions, human emotions, through animals, through rough sketches. It is easy to see what Simba is feeling in the above two storyboards through not only the emotion in his face but also his physical position. As he nudges the larger lion we can see that he is standing very timid like he is very afraid and in the second frame he recoils further and hides behind his right shoulder. Ears down also represents unhappiness, we know this because we associate it with when a dog is feeling down or guilty their tales are down between their legs.

I feel it is important that I convey character emotions in my own storyboards and make them as noticeable as possible. But not just in the facial expressions. Looking at The Lion King storyboards I have realised that body language is just as important and good at conveying character emotions
